What is Considered Child-Resistant Packaging?

Complying with cannabis packaging requirements is essential, which means you’ll need child-resistant (CR) packaging for your marijuana products. According to the federal Poison Prevention Packaging Act, child-resistant packaging must be: 

• Difficult for those under five years of age to open
• Sealed with a pry-off metal crown bottle cap
• Sealed with a plastic packaging that’s a minimum of 4 millimeters thick, and/or
• Heat-sealed without an easy-open tab, dimple, corner, or flap

Additionally, CR packaging for single-serving cannabis products must state that “This package is not child-resistant after opening.” For orally-consumed products like edibles, products must be sealed in packaging that remains child-resistant after being opened.
